The mission of the Blakemore Housing Trust is to provide affordable housing to low income families and individuals and to build community within the felowship of the United Methodist Church and within the community at large.
Founded in May 2005 as a 501(c) trust of Blakemore United Methodist Church, our goal is to become a model for the Tennessee Annual Conference of the United Methodist Chuch while providing a sustainable mission program.
A leadership committee of Trustees guide the trust and perform the various tasks and functions to implement the mission strategy. The Trust buys the raw land fee simple and then constructs a single family home on the lot. Financing is arranged by the Trust through third party lenders and government grants in order to convey the property to the eventual homebuyer.
The Trust works with the Woodbine Community Organization to identify and select a family that has completed a series of financial counseling sessions for homebuyers.
Pinnacle Financial Partners and the Federal Home Loan Bank provided the construction financing and grants to the Trust. The Woodbine Community Organization provided the year-long homebuyers program for the recipient family.
A congregation located in the vicinity of the first home built at 39 Wharf Avenue, Seay-Hubbard United Methodist Church, contributed to the home-building effort by providing its facilities and church members as volunteers for work days on the site.
