Music Ministry

Blakemore is blessed with members of all ages who enjoy celebrating their love for Christ and each other through music.  If you would consider joining or volunteering to help, the directors would love to hear from you.  Feel free to contact them.

The Chancel Choir
This is an adult choral group which rehearses Wednesdays 7:30-8:30pm preparing music for Sunday morning worship services

Youth Music Ensemble
YME is a group of singers/instrumentalists that meets at 4:45 p.m. on Sundays and rehearses for 45 minutes prior to the Blakemore/West Nashville UMYF meeting. Since UMYF meetings occur at both Blakemore UMC and West Nashville UMC, Youth Music Ensemble rehearsals take place in the choir room of the church where UMYF is meeting. Carrie Friddell is the director of this group.

Music Works for Little Musicians
This group is for singers age 3-Kindergarten and meets in room 107 from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. each Wednesday.   Carrie Friddell leads this choir in learning songs for worship and in music games to teach musical concepts.  For more information or to volunteer to help with the choir this school year, see Carrie (or call her).

Music Works for Young Musicians
This choir is for musicians in grades 1-6 and meets in the Choir room (room 206) from 5:15 to 6:00 p.m. each Wednesday.  This choir is led by Rheatta Petty and Dawn Seidenschwarz.   The children are taught to read music as they sing and play instrumental parts in preparation to lead worship.   Rheatta or Dawn would be happy to answer any questions you may have concerning Children’s Choir.

The Grace Notes
an adult handbell choir that meets Wednesdays 6:40-7:25pm.  This 3-octave choir participates regularly  in worship

Righteous Ringers
a youth handbell choir that meets at 9:00 a.m. in the sanctuary every Sunday morning.    This group has been ringing together for several years and is open to youth in grades 9-12 who have experience reading music.    Rheatta Petty directs this choir.  To learn more about the Righteous Ringers, call or send an e-mail to Rheatta  rheatta@juno.com)

Beginning handbells
Anyone in grade 7 or higher is eligible to attend this class 5:15 p.m. on Wednesdays.   Learn the basics of ringing as you prepare music for use in worship.  To find out more about the group or to sign up for the class, contact Rheatta Petty (
rheatta@juno.com) or Karla Taylor (bumcwebsite@yahoo.com).

Blakemore Boys
combining the talents of many to create a wonderful blend of Gospel, bluegrass, folk music and fun.  They often play at special events for the church and are seen in the nursing homes where our members live. Occassionally we gather for an "ole time singing" led by the Blakemore Boys.

Please note:  Blakemore’s policy is for activities to be cancelled if Metro Schools are closed for inclement weather.
